Network with confidence: Advice from Peer Guides on preparing for careers fairs

4th February 15:00 to 16:00
Unsure what to do at careers fairs? Wondering what to say to employers? Attend this peer-led session to get first-hand advice from Peer Guides and Careers Service staff on how to get the most out of careers fairs and make a good impression with employers.

Networking is a vital skill for making meaningful professional connections, but it can be daunting if you’re new to it or not sure the best way to go about it.

Our trained Peer Guides (also Manchester Met students) will help you:

  • Learn how to introduce yourself confidently and make a strong first impression with employers
  • Practice asking insightful questions that help you build meaningful conversations
  • Gain simple techniques for starting and sustaining conversations at the fair
  • Understand how to make the most of networking opportunities during the event
  • Find out how to follow up professionally with employers afterwards
  • Learn from their real and relatable experiences and practical tips

You’ll also have the chance to ask any networking questions to our Careers Adviser who’ll be there to support you too.

Student feedback from previous Network with Confidence sessions includes:

  • “Everyone was lovely and had great advice to give through personal experiences, which made the session less daunting. Enjoyable!”
  • “The session was very informative and straight to the point. It was nice to hear experiences and opinions from other students.”
  • “The session was amazing. I feel so much better about what I need to do moving forward with my career. I would recommend it to other students.”

This session is open to all and perfect if you’re attending the Spring Graduate Jobs and Placements Fair (11 February), GoGlobal (2-6 March), or other careers events.

This session is part of our Careers Service inclusive event support, designed to raise career confidence and support students from all backgrounds and identities.

You are also welcome to attend our Spring Graduate Jobs & Placements Fair 2026: Inclusive Breakout Space and Networking Advice from Peer Guides (11 February).

We are committed to making this event inclusive for everyone; please get in touch if there is anything we can do to support your participation. Please contact careers@mmu.ac.uk at least 24 hours in advance for adjustments, if possible. We will do our best to accommodate any requests made on the day of the event. You can view the Building Access Map for room access and room details.
