Mother Tongue Other Tongue competition: Editors, Designers & Exhibition curators
Mother Tongue Other Tongue is a multi-lingual poetry competition that celebrates the diverse range of languages and cultures that make up our region.
Hundreds of entries from schools across the region will be judged in May and early June and we will then need to work with editors, designers and curators to showcase the winning entries.
Language experience isn’t necessary in order to be able to assist with editing, designing and curating the work, though an interest in poetry and languages would be an advantage.
We are looking for:
- Editors: the entries are judged on the basis of an English commentary, which will need to be edited to go on printed postcards and a digital anthology (work on this will be approx 4th – 23rd June)
- Designers:template designs for the postcards have been produced but we are looking for people who can adapt designs to suit the range of entries that will be selected. (work on this will be approx 9th – 27th June)
- Curators: the finished postcards and other printed materials will be showcased in the Poetry Library and at the celebration event in July. We are looking for people with the creative skills and imagination to work with us on this. (work on this will be approx 26th June – 2nd July)
If you think you might be interested in working on this, in any of the capacities listed, you can apply, giving details of your interest and experience. Please give specific detail of any skills with photoshop or other design tools if you have them. Please also confirm that you would be available during the dates listed above.
An information session, for anyone who submits an expression of interest will give you an opportunity to find out more before committing fully.
Everyone involved in the project will be invited to attend the celebration event(s) which happen during the afternoon and evening of Thursday 3rd July.
Further information about the project, including examples of work from previous years – as anthologies and ppt slides, can be found here: https://www.mmu.ac.uk/mothertongueothertongue/how-to-enter
