Introduction to Linux

22nd January 10:00 to 13:00
In this Introduction to Linux session learn about the history of the Linux operating system and how to get started at the command line interface. Discover more about the OS that is used heavily in research and on a majority of the world's servers and supercomputers.
This activity is offered as part of Future Me Week - five days of exciting opportunities to develop your skills, deepen understanding, gain experience and take steps towards an exciting Future You.

This is an introduction to Linux presentation – delivered by the Digital Technology team (Technical Services) who support Linux throughout MMU. It will cover using Linux at MMU, Linux Philosophy and Distributions and The Command Line Interface.

It will also outline logging into Linux at MMU and include a quick demonstration of the Linux GUI with a chance to learn some commands at terminal and ask questions.

This session has been run previously during student inductions and will cover the same content.

The Man Met Attributes applied through this learning will be Digital Attributes.

Anyone can come from any user level, though experienced Linux users may be familiar with the commands being demonstrated.
