Greening the Internet: Low Carbon Computing Project with Greenie Web

5th November to 10th December
Have you ever considered the carbon cost of building a website, sending a TikTok, or using artificial intelligence? This project asks you to collaborate with students and experts from around the world to explore the sustainability of the digital world and how we can take action to reduce the environmental impacts of our browsing habits.

This online project wants you to shape the future of our digital world by creating strategies and policies that minimise the environmental impact of our tech habits.

This project addresses the growing carbon costs of digital technologies and will raise awareness of environmental impacts that are often easily overlooked. You will explore the world of digital technology to better understand the energy and carbon costs of our online infrastructure. We then want you to bring your own skills and knowledge to the question of how can we create our own policies and guidance for building a better, more efficient, and more sustainable.

Led by Ian Chew, Founder Greenie Web and holder of Forbes 30 under 30, this activity is a fantastic way to connect to the global community and have a positive impact on the world. Greenie Web is a Singapore-based green tech firm and you can find out more about Greenie Web and their exciting work here.

You will work online with fellow students from Manchester Metropolitan and other global institutions supported by Ian to build your own model of change. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking for experience in low carbon computing, global computing strategy, sustainable policy, and global collaboration.
