This is a new art and activism project connecting change-makers from around the world with young people aged 18-30 to develop their skills, knowledge and capacity in building creative campaigns to mobilise communities in the fight against climate change. This event will connect students with real-world climate change activism and global issues.

There will also be the opportunity to learn more about In Place of War’s wider work on creativity as a force for change.

Exhibitions and Creative Activism Projects (11am opening) 

No Wasteman Magazine by Lauren Pencil 

A print publication exploring the intersection between sustainability, community and cultural heritage. The first issue of this magazine will explore textiles heritage, stories and practices of those from minority ethnic backgrounds and diverse communities, challenging the lens through which we view both fashion and sustainable fashion, by highlighting cultural sustainability and community resilience.

Rendering the Invisible Visible by Colette Adu-Badu 

Stickers featuring art commissioned from artists based in MAPA countries, reflecting the direct impacts of extractive industries on their communities. The stickers will be affixed to everyday products—such as food items, technological devices, and clothing. QR codes on the stickers will link to additional context, including information on the origins of these products, the environmental and social repercussions of their production, and ways consumers can engage more sustainably 

Including Exclusive Audio-Visual Installations

The Last Scream is a new album release featuring underground artists from around the globe responding to wildlife sounds, including recordings of extinct and endangered species. We have exclusive audio-visual installations by Iggor Cavalera (Sepultura/Soulwax) & Laima Leyton (Soulwax).

A rap performance by Tarrak (12-12:45pm)  

Tarrak is a Greenlandic rapper who sings in his native language, Kalaallisut, about socio-political issues impacting Greenland, from climate change, youth mental health, and the importance of language and identity. Have a listen to some of his tracks here. 

 Multimedia presentations (12:45-1pm) 

Bus-ted by Natasha Pavey and Emma de Saram 

Developed through documenting firsthand experiences and a community workshop, this piece spotlights the disconnect between policymakers and the possibility of unglamorous but practical solutions in the context of a planet hurtling towards uncontrollable climate tipping points. It will culminate in a short film to be shared with local and national campaign groups, sparking interest and expanding popular understandings of what climate just solutions can look like. 

Pete Will Save this House by Finlay Carroll 

A new musical exploring the theme of environmental responsibility through three characters living in the UK. Using the accessible artform of musical theatre, this show aims to generate conversations about climate justice among disengaged groups in the UK theatre-going community

Hear from the young people involved in the project and learn about their experiences of working with global mentors from Brazil, Zimbabwe, and Uruguay on their climate change projects. This panel will also include:  

Educate Her Alliance by Beth Rice  

Discussing workshops delivered in schools across the UK, allowing young people to express their climate anxiety and learn about climate justice through art. 

Turning Climate Anxiety into Climate Action with Theatre of the Oppressed by Olivia Maurer 

Through this project, young people come together, act creatively, and recognise the value of and need for their contribution to climate activist spaces. Participants are led through creative theatre exercises that facilitate discussion and reflection on local environmental issues.
