4th December 13:00 to 15:00
Get started with British Sign Language in this free introductory session for Health and Education students. Learn signs for real world settings including education and healthcare placements and build skills that will support you in working life.

This interactive 2-hour session offers an introduction to British Sign Language (BSL) specifically designed for students in the Faculty of Health and Education. Delivered in partnership with Manchester Deaf Centre, you will explore the fundamentals of BSL and learn signs that are directly relevant to professional contexts such as classrooms, healthcare environments, your placements.

During the session, you will take part in practical activities led by experts from Manchester Deaf Centre. These activities focus on everyday communication in health and education settings. You will also receive Deaf awareness training, gaining insight into Deaf culture and inclusion, and learning how to create accessible environments for Deaf individuals.
