Fashion Research Assistant: Promoting Accessibility in Parkinson’s Research
The School of Psychology is on the lookout for a creative and driven Fashion design student for a groundbreaking scoping project.
Join the Translational and Computational Neuroscience Unit as they tackle a crucial challenge: enhancing the accessibility of clothing for their motion tracking studies involving participants with Parkinson’s. To promote accessibility for future research, the team wish to undertake a scoping exercise with current and previous participants to see how clothing could be created and/or modified to make it more comfortable for participants.
Your mission? To collaborate with current and past participants, exploring innovative ways to design or modify clothing that maximizes comfort and usability.
The current role will seek a motivated and empathetic Fashion student for up to 5 hours per week for 6 weeks as a research assistant to support the project. Duties will include:
- Facilitating and designing brief interviews (10-15 minutes) with people with Parkinson’s about their experiences of wearing the current clothing in the Movement Lab in Brooks
- Ensuring accurate transcription of these interviews
- Working as a team to develop potential solutions to remedy the issues raised
- Writing up a brief report summarising the findings from the interviews, alongside ideas to inform a future development stage of the project
The role will support flexible working; participant interviews will be conducted in the Movement Lab in the Brooks Building but all other duties can be completed remotely and at a time convenient to the student.
This is more than just a project—it’s an opportunity to elevate your professional practice and make a real impact in the world of adaptive design. Partner with the School of Psychology and be part of pioneering research that could change lives.
