Overview
Manchester Fashion Week is commissioning a student-led short documentary following Kit Giroux’s journey as he conceptualises, sources, designs, and produces a collection for Manchester Fashion Week 2026.
This film will document the lived reality of an emerging designer: the creative process, the challenges of recognition, the emotional investment, and the business realities behind building a fashion brand.
The documentary will premiere during Manchester Fashion Week 2026, with potential for earlier broadcast consideration. This is not simply a fashion film – it is a structured narrative piece rooted in authenticity, craft, and Manchester soul.
Creative Direction
The documentary should:
● Follow a clear narrative arc (idea → development → obstacles → refinement → runway)
● Capture the intricacies behind sourcing, making, and production
● Explore the tension between creativity and commercial survival ● Highlight the life of an emerging designer seeking recognition ● Weave Manchester’s identity, resilience and cultural heritage throughout Tone: Intimate, honest, cinematic, grounded. Length: 10–15 minutes (final edit).
Student Roles Available
1. Director (Lead Role)
● Develop narrative structure and treatment

● Shape story in post
● Create cohesive pacing and emotional rhythm
● Integrate archive, music and titles
● Prepare broadcast-ready final cut

4. Producer (Research & Narrative Support)
● Develop interview questions
● Research contextual themes (Manchester textile heritage, emerging designer statistics, fashion economy)
● Support story structure development

Participants should submit an Expression of Interest including:
- CV or Portfolio
- Short Statement (max 300 words) outlining why this story resonates with them and the role they are applying for
- Any relevant showreel links
EOIs must be submitted via RISE by Sunday 22nd March at 12pm.
