Day in the life of an AMHP (Approved Mental Health Professional)

21st January 14:00 to 16:00
AMHPs are responsible for making decisions under the Mental Health Act. AMHPs work with almost everyone! Social workers, occupational therapists, psychiatric nurses, and clinical psychologists can train to be AMHPs, so if this is relevant to you, get ready to test your knowledge and flex your analytical decision making skills with us!
This activity is offered as part of Future Me Week - five days of exciting opportunities to develop your skills, deepen understanding, gain experience and take steps towards an exciting Future You.

AMHPs are trained professionals who carry out duties under the Mental Health Act. AMHPs are responsible for making decisions under the Mental Health Act (1983) including what is sometimes referred to as ‘sectioning’.

AMHPs can be a social worker, occupational therapist, psychiatric nurse, or clinical psychologist who has completed additional training and been approved by a Local Social Services Authority.

AMHPs work with a variety of service users and professionals. It’s an often misunderstood role so arrive ready to get involved and ask any questions, including the ‘stupid ones’ (which are never stupid).

In this session you will be introduced to the role of the AMHP and guided through realistic practice scenarios regularly encountered by AMHPs and you’ll share you’re knowledge, perspective and analysis to help us reach the best outcomes.

All are welcome including IHSC students, as well as Social Work, nursing, psychology and Occupational Therapy students because you may be eligible to train as AMHPs in the future.

This will be an interactive session which will provide you with two specific opportunities: 1) Learn more about the AMHP role to develop your knowledge of interprofessional practice and 2) To see if the AMHP role could be part of your future!
