Black History Month Walking Tour
During this walking tour we’ll be discussing topics of a sensitive nature, along with race, racism, slavery, and harm.
On this accessible walking tour, starting from The Union, join Esther Lisk-Carew, AHEAD Engagement Coordinator and former Heritage Lead for The World Reimagined, for an engaging Black History Month walking tour hosted by the Health and Education Faculty. You will explore key sites and stories across the city, learning about the historical and contemporary contributions of Black communities and the impact of heritage on shaping local and global narratives.
You will actively engage in a guided walk, observing, discussing, and reflecting on historical sites and public art that explore Black history. You will be encouraged to ask questions, share insights, and connect the stories you encounter with wider societal themes such as health, education, and social justice. This interactive approach ensures that you not only learn but also critically engage with the material and its relevance today.
By the end of the tour, you will have a richer understanding of the diversity and depth of Black history in Manchester and the UK and its influence on contemporary culture and society. You will develop skills in historical inquiry, critical thinking, and cultural awareness. This activity is directly relevant to those in health and education fields, fostering empathy, inclusivity, and a broader understanding of the communities you will serve in your professional careers.
If you need support with your wellbeing, you can contact our Counselling, Mental Health and Wellbeing Service during office hours on 0161 247 3493.
