Become a Carbon Literacy Trainer!

19th January to 23rd January
Develop essential transferable skills, get paid to deliver Carbon Literacy training, make an impact on the biggest challenge of our time.
This activity is offered as part of Future Me Week - five days of exciting opportunities to develop your skills, deepen understanding, gain experience and take steps towards an exciting Future You.

Are you passionate about climate action? Do you want to educate others about climate change and what they can do about it? Do you want to develop essential trainer and communication skills?

Then join Manchester Met’s Team of Carbon Literacy trainers!

Manchester Met is currently working towards the ambitious target of embedding Carbon Literacy in all degree programmes by academic year 2026-27. As a Carbon Literacy trainer, you will play a key role in this initiative, delivering Carbon Literacy training to students from across the university. There will also be opportunities to deliver training to university staff and our wider community. You do not need to be a climate change expert to become a trainer; you just need to have attended Carbon Literacy training, be passionate about sustainability/climate change issues and able to fully attend Man Met’s Carbon Literacy train-the-trainer course during Future Me Week.

What to expect from the Carbon Literacy train-the-trainer course:

The Carbon Literacy train-the-trainer course is an interactive course designed to equip you with skills crucial for delivering Carbon Literacy training (CL). This includes a range of communication skills (including active listening and presentation skills) and session management skills (dealing with challenging behaviours, time management, facilitation skills etc). In addition to this you will also gain practical experience of delivering Carbon Literacy activities.

This is a unique opportunity to develop professionally, gain transferable skills, and to grow your knowledge of climate issues. It is also an invaluable and supportive space to build confidence.

This is an intensive course that will take place over four full days on 19th, 20th, 21st & 23rd January 2026, with some homework set as well. In order to complete the course, you must attend every one of those days; we are unable to make exceptions regarding this.

Benefits of becoming a Carbon Literacy trainer:

Becoming a Carbon Literacy trainer is a significant commitment, and you should only apply if you are serious about making that commitment. However, the benefits that you will gain are invaluable. Here’s what one of our former student Carbon Literacy trainers had to say:

Becoming a Carbon Literacy trainer is one of the most beneficial things I have done during my time at Manchester Met. The skills I have gained and the opportunities that have opened up to me as a result of becoming a trainer are something I can take well beyond my time as a student.

Requirements

  • You must have attended regular Carbon Literacy training and applied for your Carbon Literacy certificate.
  • You need to commit to delivering a minimum of 2 Carbon Literacy training sessions following your participation in the Train-the-Trainer course
  • You must be available for all the dates of the Train-the-Trainer course (19th, 20th, 21st & 23rd January 2026).
  • You must have registered with Jobs 4 Students
  • You must attend a 20-minute interview in either of the following weeks: w/c 8th Dec, w/c 15th Dec or w/c 12th Jan.

Please note that spaces are limited and we may not be able to accept all applicants on this programme.

We will process applications on an ongoing basis and interviews will begin in w/c 8th December. The latest day you can apply is 9pm on Sunday 11th January, but note that if we reach capacity before this date, we won’t accept any more applications- so make sure you apply as quickly as possible.

If you are accepted onto the Carbon Literacy Trainer Programme, you will be exempt from Future Me Week activities that clash with the Train-the-Trainer course.

If you have any additional learning requirements, please contact us as soon as you are able, at J.Mork@mmu.ac.uk so we can determine how to best support you in undertaking this training.
