Be Part of a Live Sports Broadcast Project from Platt Lane - Season 25/26
Matchday Live is Manchester Met’s flagship student-led live sports broadcasting project, offering participants the chance to experience the real-world environment of professional production. Each season, we cover matches from university sport and the Women’s British Basketball League, giving students the opportunity to create live broadcasts for thousands of viewers across YouTube and social media.
The project offers two main pathways for involvement: on-screen and technical. Students interested in on-screen roles can explore presenting, commentary, sideline reporting, interviews and storytelling. These roles develop confidence, communication, and journalism skills in a supportive environment, with coaching and feedback from industry professionals.
The technical pathway includes roles such as camera operator, vision mixer, graphics operator, audio engineer and producer. This route is ideal for those with an interest in media production, sound, live events or broadcast technology. Training is provided in professional software and hardware including vMix, Blackmagic ATEM, Dante, and industry-standard camera systems.
Students will gain invaluable experience working in fast-paced live environments, collaborate across disciplines, and develop technical and transferable skills that enhance their employability. Many former participants have gone on to paid work in sports and media, including roles at Sky Sports, Manchester United, and independent production companies.
Whether you’re looking to be in front of the camera or behind it, Matchday Live is your chance to be part of a high-profile, award-nominated initiative that makes a real impact on the university community and beyond.
