Arts & Humanities Keynote Event: An Afternoon with Ambassador Andrew Heyn CMG OBE
Andrew is a graduate of Manchester Met having studied Social Sciences (Politics) from 1981 to 1984. He then joined the UK’s Foreign Office where he spent over 30 years, achieving senior Ambassadorial rank. Andrew served as British Consul-General in Hong Kong 2016 to 2020 during the period of the mass street protests and the subsequent crack down. He was also British Ambassador to Myanmar from 2009-2013, when Myanmar’s military rulers began to open up and Aung San Suu Kyi became the global symbol of successful peaceful resistance to autocracy. This period also included, however, the beginnings of the Rohingya crisis while ultimately led to the 2021 military coup which restored brutal authoritarian military rule. He is now a speaker and media expert commentator on Myanmar, Hong Kong and wider foreign policy and diplomatic issues. He joined Manchester Met’s Board of Governors in March 2021.
At this special Go Global Week event, Andrew will talk about his international career offering expert insights and will also answer questions from the audience.
