AI and Careers

3rd November 13:00 to 14:00
This is your chance to explore how AI can become your career co-pilot! Join us for live demos, interactive activities, and practical tips on using AI tools to boost your applications, sharpen your professional brand, and navigate career choices with confidence.

Overview:

This workshop introduces students to the ethical and effective use of AI as a thinking partner in their career journey. Whether you are exploring career options, preparing job applications, or building your professional brand, AI tools like Microsoft Copilot can help you reflect, and take action with confidence.

Through guided activities and live demonstrations, students will learn how to write effective prompts, critically evaluate AI-generated content, and use AI to enhance, not replace, their own thinking. The session also addresses common concerns such as career paralysisjob displacement, and the rise of hybrid AI/traditional professions.

Tech requirements: Come along to the session with Phone and/or Laptop as we will be using Microsoft Copilot throughout the session.

By the end of the session, students will be able to:

Use AI tools confidently and ethically to support career exploration.

Understand the importance of prompt writing and how to structure effective prompts for career-related tasks.

Critically evaluate AI outputs to ensure accuracy, authenticity, and alignment with personal goals.

Recognise AI’s role as a collaborator, not a replacement for human judgement or creativity.

Reflect on emerging career trends, including AI-influenced roles and evolving labour market demands.

Skills students will develop:

Prompt Writing: Creating clear, specific, and contextual prompts to get useful AI responses.

Career Exploration: Using AI to identify career paths and assess skills.

Application Strategy: Enhancing CVs, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles, and interview prep using AI.

Critical Thinking: Evaluating AI-generated content for relevance, ethics, and personalisation.

Professional Branding: Building a consistent and authentic online presence with AI support.

Ethical Awareness: Navigating issues like plagiarism, bias, and transparency in AI use.

Self-Reflection: Using AI to support goal setting, values alignment, and career planning.
