aAh! Magazine X Lights Up – Creative Brief and Exhibition Opportunity

23rd October to 9th November
Join the aAh! Magazine team to collaborate on impactful creative projects in partnership with Lights Up and Bee Pedal Ready. Contribute your creative work to an exhibition following the Lights Up bike ride, a key event promoting women’s safety and participation in cycling, part of Manchester’s European Capital of Cycling celebrations.

aAh! Magazine invites students to collaborate on a creative exhibition following the Lights Up night-time bike ride, which raises awareness of women’s safety in cycling. The exhibition will explore key issues in cycling through art, design, photography and media and will be part of Manchester’s recognition as the European Capital of Cycling.

Content Warning:

This project may involve discussions related to sensitive topics, including sexual harassment and women’s safety.

Brief:

We are looking for passionate graphic design, illustration, photography, filmmaking, and marketing students to work on a creative brief with aAh! Magazine, in collaboration with Lights Up and Bee Pedal Ready. Your work will be showcased in a special exhibition following the Lights Up night-time bike ride, a community event designed to promote cycling safety for women.

The exhibition will take place on Saturday, 9th November 2024 at Victoria Baths.

About Lights Up:

Manchester Mayor of Cycling Belinda Everett will lead a night-time bike ride this November, designed to bring women from across Greater Manchester together to illuminate the streets and ride as an empowered collective.

The Lights Up event offers women and girls the opportunity to engage in cycling, while promoting safe riding at night and raising awareness of the underlying issues. This is especially important as winter approaches and the number of female cyclists on the roads drops significantly as the days get shorter.

Partnering with Manchester City Council and Manchester Metropolitan University, the ride will start at All Saints Park and travel through the university campus, passing the illuminated School of Digital Arts and travel through the city, ending at Victoria Baths.

Roles:

We are looking to recruit students in the following areas:

Whether you are an experienced artist, designer, journalist, media creator – or looking to develop new skills – this is an excellent opportunity to get involved in a meaningful project, build your portfolio and gain real-world experience.

How to get involved:

To express your interest in joining the team and working on the aAh! Magazine X Lights Up brief, please complete this expression of interest form and email your ideas and submissions to aAh.Editor@gmail.com
