Incubator Week TWO

Elle Simms Experiential Learning Specialist

The word community is, without question, central to human experience. Being part of an engaging community gives us a sense of belonging. It enables us to share personal relatedness and support growth of each other, ourselves and our environment.

A community can be anything from a physical place or space where geographically people connect, or via a virtual space such as social media groups or private community platforms. Communities bring like-minded people together with similar characteristics and common interests.

Last week Babz spoke about how you can “Be it til You See It”! Have you seen this AMAZING Ted X talk from Amy Cuddy? She became famous for “Fake it til You Make it” which Babz disagrees with. Have a watch and see which statement you are going to use? ITS WORTH 20 MINS OF YOUR LIFE, I PROMISE!

So far you have thought about your own personal stories, and connected this with your why for undertaking a project. You have considered how your why connects to your community, and we have surfaced ways you can start with your own personal story, and how your story can make a powerful project.

This week we will spend out time looking at the scope of projects, how to see a project overview, and how to turn an idea into actually making stuff happen. This will include looking at how to manage the mechanisms of project work with your Mentors, using some Get it done resources and insights, and setting yourself a map with goals to achieve. We look at networks and support mechanisms, plus funding!

WEEK THREE OBJECTIVES:

  • Explore definitions and examples of social actions
  • Map out networks of support
  • Explore funding streams (including but not limited to the university seed funding)
  • Create a viable project plan
  • Discuss risks and countermeasures for robust plans

As Elle has been banging on about for the last 2 weeks, this Incubator is all about a process. Engaging with the tools and scaffold we have put in place for the project, enjoying the journey, will help your end result. Even if you can really clearly see what that looks like, you feel you have a clear goal, go with the process and see how this well practiced process, can support your development!

Take some time to research what Get it Done do, how they talk about what they do to their audiences, and take note of how they go about doing it. Then pay special attention to, and reflect upon their WHY! Consider your why and how you might communicate this outward.
