In this section you will learn about cervical screening.
The cervical screening programme is designed to find changes to the cells of the cervix which if left untreated could progress to cervical cancer.
Women aged 25 to 65 are sent an appointment on a regular basis (timing differs between the 4 devolved nations of the UK) where a trained nurse at the GP practice will perform the short procedure.
Cervical screening is not recommended during pregnancy or for 3 months after the pregnancy is completed so if this is due or overdue then it is advisable for women to make an appointment for the cervical screen before the pregnancy.
