Sit with your memory for a second. Let’s try and remember what has changed in your life the past 10 years.

Note down the first 5 things you think of that have changed within these parameters from 10 years ago.

Parameter 1: Technology.

For me: I personally find that the actual technological milestones are not so different. The internet for example existed 10 years ago to a similar capacity that it does today, complete even with the relatively contemporary invention of social media.

What I find different though are the details within that interaction. I find if I look at the internet a decade ago for example, I remember much less constant sponsored and unsponsored advertising. I find it was easier to use search engines because they seemed to focus more on giving you the easiest access (be it imperfect) to the information I was searching for than showing me sponsored content in a similar vein. I have felt that interaction change over the last 10 years.

I find social media was more of a wild west for better and for worse. There was much less tailoring content specifically to me and so it was a constant chaos of erupted suggestions. Now my interactions with all social media, streaming platforms and even applications like Uber Eats feel much more tailored and targeted towards me and my desires.

My interactions with internet technologies are much more confident and seamless than they used to be. On some level this is me learning the language of internet technologies as they have evolved and decided on similar overarching architecture. Some of this though is the designers of these technologies cleaning design lines of their original ideas and making user interfaces more intuitive.

Phones are much more varied in size, spec and scope than they used to be.

Now think about yours.

Was there any new technology around that time that changed your life or blew your mind?! Did this change end up being positive?

If you can remember with any sort of clarity, try 15 years ago. Sit with that memory.
