STRIVE Mentoring

All STRIVERS who want a mentor, will be matched to one!

All STRIVERS are matched to a mentor through the STRIVE programme.

We are extremely fortunate on to have a network of incredible mentors who are committed to supporting you! You can meet your mentor face-to-face, online, by telephone by email or a mix — whatever works best for both of you.

Mentors are expected to meet with their STRIVER for at least 2 hours per month
(We recommend for an hour every two weeks)

STRIVE matches you with a professional mentor to give you insights into the world of university, studying & work.

How You Will Benefit

  • develop practical skills and confidence to help you enter your chosen profession
  • expand your personal and professional networks in relevant sectors
  • enhance your career management and personal development skills
  • prepare to transition from university to the workplace
  • increase your understanding of an industry you are interested in
  • gain exposure to professional practices and trends
  • get an industry perspective that will enhance your academic learning
  • broaden your knowledge of the many career options that are open to you
  • discover what employers are looking for when they hire graduates
  • get experience of mentoring that will prepare you for similar schemes with your graduate employer

What is Mentoring?

Mentoring is a one-to-one partnership between a more experienced professional (the mentor) and someone less experienced (the mentee).

Your mentor will encourage you to seek advice and information about your career direction and employment goals. They will also share their skills, experience and insight, and take an interest in your career plans.

The relationship is built on:

  • mutual respect
  • trust
  • encouragement
  • constructive feedback
  • openness
  • a willingness to learn and share

As a mentee, you are an ambassador of the University.

Who is eligible?

Any STRIVER, regardless of level of study who is formally accepted onto STRIVE is eligible to have a mentor.

Our Mentors

Our mentors are professionals that will have skills and experience that will benefit you.

The University selects mentors from a wide range of sectors, and they may include:
