What could be included in heritage and how can looking at objects, collections and nature connect with people today? We will look at the value and potential of engagement and look at examples of objects and engagement from Manchester and around the UK.
In this intensive you will learn more about how to create engagement activities that use heritage as a starting point. You’ll learn about practical techniques to help people make connections between their own lives and heritage. You’ll discover innovative work that heritage sites and museums are co-creating with communities in Manchester. And you will build awareness of useful toolkits, organisations and websites that can help you harness the power of heritage.

Katie Potter has 17 years experience of developing, delivering and evaluating heritage engagement activities. She brings her experience of working with different audiences and at different heritage settings, including an industrial mill site, a national museum, a Georgian crescent and an historic home to this RISE.

Heather Sargeant currently works as a Heritage Engagement Planner/Researcher as well as on freelance projects focused on content for children. She uses skills gained working in the education and publishing sectors to inform her practice.
