This self-study pack will focus on practical tips for outside of your study to help you make the most of your time at university. From focusing on finance to social life, to your own self-care.
Throughout the self-study pack, you will hear from current students at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) describing their experiences and offering practical tips to help you prepare for your university journey. Some of the information presented is specific to MMU.

This is intended to illustrate what may be available at the universities you are considering. You will then have opportunities to research your university choices and build a table of information that can help you decide which university is the right one for you. The first topic, finance will explore the costs of going to university including student loans and how theses get paid back.

You will look at how you can manage your money with a four-step budgeting plan and ways to boost your income with a part-time job. There will be advice and tips for eating well on and a budget and finally where to go if you need help.

The second topic is all about to social side of being at university. You will reflect on the type of person you are socially and then look at ways of meeting new people and making friends. This will include looking at the role of the Students’ Union and chaplaincy in HE.

This topic will conclude with advice for what you can do to prepare before you get there. The final topic looks at self-care and the questions you may have in the first few weeks of going to university and longer term. You will explore life beyond the lecture theatre in order to identify activities to look after you physical and mental health and the support available at most institutions. The self-study pack will conclude with some top tips and a checklist to help you with your preparations.
