Introduction

We are so excited that you are joining the STRIVE community.

A reminder as to why students have chosen STRIVE (based on last year)

I want you to keep this in mind as you embark on this programme. I know some of you are motivated by the 300 RISE points that you can get in doing this programme – an amazing opportunity to enhance your degree award. However, this is an outcome rather than a primary motivation for many. It is important to remember that what you get out, is what you put in!

We have improved STRIVE this year and responded to the recommendations of our evaluation of last year’s programme. Unfortunately, we are currently unable to integrate sessions into your timetable. It will be good for you to tell us as you progress through the programme, whether you think we should.

For STRIVE 200 – we have lots of social events, where you can meet other STRIVERS. Additionally, you have a Faculty PAL and peer guides, as well as STRIVE Ambassadors who will work with you from the start, to provide peer support and mentoring.

Before we get started – let’s ensure that you are set up with everything that you need!

  • Joined the STRIVE community on UniBuddy
  • Joined UniBuddy community and your chosen special interest groups – everyone should join the STRIVE updates community!
  • Checked that you have access to the updates site in UniBuddy
  • Set an alert in your phone to remind you that you will receive your STRIVE newsletter every Monday by noon (the newsletter has important updates and reminders)
  • Contacted your mentor via email to say hello!
  • Signed up for Q Step (postgraduates have priority)

Work readiness survey

STRIVE aims to develop your work-readiness capitals (Ugiagbe-Green & Southall, 2020)

These are the things my research has shown you need to develop for others to perceive you to go on and achieve successful accomplishment in whatever work context you go on to.

Its important for us to assess and evaluate the impact of STRIVE. As such, we need to measure your WRC score before you start STRIVE and we shall measure your WRC score again at the end of the programme.

Please access this QR code below or link here to complete the 15 mins survey.
