Introduction

This week, you can hear from our STRIVE mentor, April Kalu who is an industry expert, having worked in the luxury fashion sector before moving into academia. You may be really interested in breaking into the fashion industry or may have a general interest about industry, what its like and how to get in!  This will prove to be a really engaging and informative session and again, one not to be missed.

Research shows if you do a placement, you are more likely to go on and achieve a ‘good degree’.  There may be some of you for whom doing a placement is not an option. So one STRIVE we strongly recommend internships (a shorter placement), or getting a part time job that is relevant to the sector(s) that you may be interested in working in after you finish University. Additionally, if you do a placement, internship(s) or have some industry/sector work experience, you are more likely to go on and get a ‘graduate job.’

So, for those of you interested in doing a placement (we strongly recommend this at STRIVE), we have organised an insight day and N Brown.  N Brown is a top 10 online retailer in the UK and owns Jacabo, Simply Be, JD Williams and others.  This is an amazing opportunity to see the business functions e.g., accounting, marketing, procurement (purchasing), product design, legal dept.  You will see first-hand to experience what the office is like, what a professional environment looks like, understand the work that is undertaken in these areas and have a chance to ask questions, make connections and observe what a day in the life of working for a big company.  This week, you have the chance to sign up, as we can take a maximum of 10 STRIVERS with us for the day.

All travel expenses will be paid by STRIVE and you will receive lunch and refreshments during the day.

Finally, join us for a coffee morning to have a chat about how you are, how things are going, how you are settling back into study for Semester 2 and biscuits!
