Take the first step to learning a range of the languages spoken across the World, including French, German, Spanish, Italian and Japanese. Explore how language learning can enhance your employability, and the ways in which you can take that learning further.
This self study pack will start by presenting the case for learning a language, before giving you a brief introduction to French, German, Spanish, Italian and Japanese. This self study pack caters for people with no (or very limited) prior knowledge of the five languages and who would like to learn and practice some beginner-level words and phrases. At the end, you will also have learnt about the various opportunities that are available to you for learning a language at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Tim Leigh is a Senior Lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Language Centre. His main interest is within English Language Teaching (ELT) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Prior to joining Man Met, he spent more than ten years working overseas: teaching and managing language courses in the Far East, the Middle East, and Europe.   

Jeronee Jennycloss is the Graduate E-Learning Coordinator for the Rise Project. As part of her internship, she oversees the creation and delivery of the self study packs that are present on the Rise website and is jointly responsible for the creation of the World Languages self study pack. She is passionate about helping students become lifelong learners.

Ciboney Kiernan is a final year undergraduate student of French and Spanish at Manchester Metropolitan University. She will be delivering the content for French, as part of this self study pack. She has experience in tutoring foreign languages. Her passion is language learning and sharing this with others.   

Carola Dautzenburg is completing a master’s degree in Education Studies and is graduating this year. She is from the German part of Switzerland and will be delivering the content for German. She has previously trained to be a primary school teacher and has always found languages one of the most interesting subjects to teach.

Isabella López García is currently on her placement year, as part of her Fashion Buying and Merchandising degree. She is originally from Cali, Colombia and has experience in promoting languages and culture. She actively participates in the Latinos Society at MMU and was a Third Term Spanish Facilitator in June 2020. Isabella is delivering Spanish as part of the World Languages self study pack

Benedetta Andreotti is a recent graduate from Manchester Metropolitan University, studying Human Nutrition. I will deliver Italian, as it is my mother tongue. In my past, I taught English to two kids, so I have experience in teaching languages. In the future I would like to learn Mandarin. 

Pruthvi Khilosia is a 2020 BA Journalism with Japanese graduate and is currently doing an MA in Publishing. He will be delivering content for Japanese, giving you an essence of the language and culture. Pruthvi aspires to explore communities and stories around the globe, inspired by his study abroad to the U.S.
