Develop: Task 4

Develop: Task 4

Speaking English can be very challenging to speakers whose first language is not English, especially when language is used as a gate for communication that is so difficult to cross.  English speakers as a second language may struggle to cross the language communication gate if their host society members stratify them according to the way they speak or do not support their language learning journey.

By completing this activity, you will have thought about instances of miscommunication across language barriers and how language can act as a gatekeeper.

Read the anecdotes in the following answer template and add one of your own miscommunication examples. This could be a personal one, or one you have researched.
