Be part of something bigger

I hope as a STRIVER you feel part of a community.

On STRIVE we believe in the power of community and coming together as humans being.  We believe it is our differences and diversity that give us something special to contribute to the world of work and society at large.

Sonya Barlow x TEDxFulwood

OPTIONAL

In this TEDx, Sonya tells an inspiring story about the importance of community and connection – to have space to share experiences and stories.

Sonya Barlow is friend and patron of STRIVE.

We aim to create opportunities for STRIVERS to come together and support each other with their leaning and development.  Some of you will have no clue what you want to go on and do – but will know that it is important to do something that is fulfilling and rewarding.

Rewarding work, is not just about making money in commercial services. Some of us are more motivated by purpose-values driven work. This week, STRIVERS will learn a bit more about the work of third sector.

In a perfect world, meritocracy, and success guaranteed for the hardest working, most talented individuals, regardless of their background, would thrive. However, when it comes to the workplace, meritocracy can feel like somewhat of a myth.

Even getting into education points to deficit positioning of students, rather than institutions.

Learn more about how this impacts on getting into higher education.

Wealth, education, connections, and background still play an important role in our progress – and this can be a daunting prospect for those from underrepresented backgrounds attempting to navigate a career in the competitive corporate space.

On STRIVE we talk about the myth of meritocracy i.e. that its working really hard that always leads to success – We are a positive community of support and although only working hard to pass your assessments will not lead to your success, we create opportunities to empower you to know you can overcome some of the social barriers that exist for you.

Watch the pencil’s tale – a short story that gets you thinking about how you can be the best version of yourself.
