Woodwork Session Volunteer (Manchester Services)

3rd August to 27th June
We are looking for people 18+ who have some spare time and would like to give back time to the local community, by supporting arts and crafting activities at our centres. Ideally you will be creative with resources including recycling.
This activity is brought to you by The Union in partnership with Manchester Community Central
 
Why we want you
We are looking for people 18+ who have some spare time and would like to give back time to the local community, by supporting arts and crafting activities at our centres. Ideally you will be creative with resources including recycling.
What you will be doing

Supporting our woodworking departments to provide activities for people who attend the centre
Provide advice for staff and students on woodworking including correct use of tools etc
Helping with the planning of activities
Be proactive and encouraging with people at the session to encourage them to develop new skills
Be involved in a social enterprise that includes furniture restoration and upcycling

The skills you need

Good communication and interpersonal skills
Empathy, understanding and sensitive to the needs of others.
Interests in woodworking and qualifications and/or experience
Ability to volunteer within the boundaries of NAS policies, eg Safeguarding, Confidentiality, Lone Working etc
Reliable, consistent, dependable and trustworthy
You will need to provide 2 references and also complete a DBS check

We would like you to have experience in this area, we would like you to share your skills and knowledge with us to help plan and lead the activities. Ideally you will be creative with resources including recycling.
When and where
Approx 4 hours per week flexible on days and times Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm Based at The National Autistic Society Centre in Northenden, South Manchester

• Induction into the organisation and understanding autism training • Access to online training • Support from a line manager • Agreed expenses paid
