Nightstop provides emergency, overnight accommodation for young people aged 16-25 who are at risk of homelessness or experiencing homelessness and have nowhere else to stay. Nightstop guests are placed in the homes of trained and vetted volunteer hosts who provide a safe and secure place for the guest to stay that evening.
Nightstop are always looking for more volunteers to ensure the service can continue with our preventative work, as youth homelessness continues to rise in Greater Manchester. If you would like to volunteer for Nightstop but do not have the capacity to host a young person in your home, you can volunteer to be a driver or chaperone, ensuring a young person gets from A to B in a safe and supportive environment. For many of the young people in our service, this is their first time encountering homelessness and it is a scary and unexpected experience. By supporting a young person to and from their Nightstop placement, you are ensuring that they do not have to go through this alone.
Volunteers will be required to transport or chaperone vulnerable young people to and from Nightstop volunteer's homes, providing a listening ear and helping that young person feel safe and comfortable during what is often a scary experience. You don’t need any specialist experience or qualifications to become a Nightstop volunteer, and you will be given appropriate training. All you need to be a volunteer driver is a full UK driving license, be fully business insured and have passed your recent MOT. All Nightstop volunteers will also be DBS checked.
