Volunteer Advice Worker
Manchester Volunteer Advice Partnership (MVAP) are looking for volunteers to give advice to people in our community who need help with welfare benefits, housing and debt. If you're interested in a role with a greater time commitment and more responsibility, this is for you.
Become a volunteer advice worker! You could be placed in one of our independent advice centres to give advice on welfare benefits, housing and debt. For example, this could involve checking eligibility for benefits or supporting clients to complete benefit questionnaires. You might help a client negotiate for more affordable payments to clear their debt, or give advice on housing options and eligibility for council housing.
Manchester Volunteer Advice Partnership (MVAP) run 9-week training courses (sessions every Tuesday) teaching you how to give good quality advice on welfare benefits and housing, as well as assertiveness and communication skills. During this training, you will also be placed as a volunteer at one of our advice centres, your choice - either Manchester Refugee Support Network, Cheetham Hill Advice Centre, Manchester Mind or the Town Hall Project (at the Booth Centre). Follow the hyperlinks for more details. This placement will be half a week day, usually a Monday, Wednesday or Thursday.
We provide lunch and travel expenses, ongoing training and support and we're happy to give references.
