Visitor Welcome and Tours Volunteer

23rd May to 22nd December
The Working Class Movement Library are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who can help bring the library to life by delivering tours to visitors and groups and to welcome visitors to the library.
This activity is brought to you by The Union in partnership with Manchester Community Central

Background to the Library
The Working Class Movement Library in Salford is a radical library founded by working class activists, Ruth and Eddie Frow. We provide access to our collections and events to encourage working people to learn from and interpret their history. We are a charitable trust and work with the support of volunteers to help us to achieve our mission. Our library and archive collection includes books, pamphlets, posters, photographs, banners and other memorabilia that tell the story of working class struggle and campaigning.
We have an active volunteer programme, with volunteers helping with the collection, events, digitization, tours and the library garden. We are looking for new volunteers to help make our collection, our building and our activities more accessible.
Details of the role
We plan to increase the hours that the library is open to the public and re-engage people with our building and displays. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who can help bring the library to life by delivering tours to visitors and groups and to welcome visitors to the library.
Tours will allow visitors to learn more about the many objects we have on display, the building itself and our founders, Ruth and Eddie Frow and their motivations for founding the library.
We are looking for volunteers who have the following:

An interest in working class history
A commitment to making working class history accessible to new audiences
An interest in working in a heritage setting
A positive attitude with the desire to learn new skills
Excellent communication skills
Experience of working or volunteering in a heritage setting (not essential)
Experience of working or volunteering in a public facing role (not essential)

Volunteering hours
Hours are flexible to suit the needs of volunteers, however we ask that you are available regularly and usually on an agreed day each week. We expect that this role will take 4-6 hours a week and will include occasional weekend volunteering.
Full training will be provided.
Volunteer expenses will be paid by WCML.
