Music Playlist Maker & Befriender
Volunteer with Levenshulme Good Neighbours to make a difference in the community & tackle and/or stave off the triggers of dementia.
Do you have a passion for music and how it can improve lives?
Do you feel older people should be or are valued members of society?
Would you like to meet someone new this year whose life you can make a difference to?
If you answered YES to any or all of these questions, congratulations, you are the right person to volunteer with Levenshulme Good Neighbours to make a difference in the community & tackle and/or stave off the triggers of dementia.
Levenshulme Good Neighbours (LGN) is an award winning befriending charity that supports isolated older people in the local community.
Our volunteer befrienders support older people in a wide range of social, emotional and practical ways. These can include:
helping people with limited mobility get out into the community
helping older people get online
helping with odd jobs and errands
escorting older people to appointments, social events and activities
visiting a housebound person
having fun days out together
Most of our service users are aged between 65 and 93 years old, although we offer the service to anyone over 60 who would benefit from a befriender.
We are currently recruiting a music playlist befriender, to visit older people in the Levenshulme community. The primary focus of this role is to work alongside an older person, and help them curate a music playlist that reflects their life's journey, so this could include pop music, classical, jazz, religious music, lullabies, nursery rhymes, music from movies and TV themes, in fact, any music that has an impact on their life.
Music can have a hugely positive impact on mental health, and hearing songs you grew up with can transport you back to a time and place instantly.
This role is perfect if you enjoy a good chat, are a good listener, love music, and want to help improve the lives of older people in Manchester.
Volunteering is hugely rewarding, and our volunteers have a massive impact, helping people to feel like valued members of the community by offering friendship in a safe supportive environment.
Our volunteers are carefully matched with older people who they visit regularly so a meaningful relationship can develop.
For this role we are looking for someone who can offer 2-6 hours a week, preferably during the day.
We hope to hear from you soon.
