Mentor Volunteer

19th June to 19th June
This role at Pure Insight is to become a volunteer mentor to a young person leaving care. You will be providing emotional and practical support which is driven by the needs of that particular young person you are eventually matched to.
This activity is brought to you by The Union in partnership with Manchester Community Central

Pure Insight was established in January 2013 as a direct response to issues highlighted by local young people leaving care. It was founded with and by people with lived and professional experience of care, committed to challenging the issues faced by many care leavers. Care Leavers directly input all our plans, which are further informed by local and national research/policies.

Our small, dedicated staff team give huge flexibility and commitment to enable care leavers to flourish. They work alongside young people to shape projects and are activity involved in developing the future direction of the charity. In addition to the team, we draw on the skills and experience of over 100 dedicated volunteers who receive intensive training and supervision, enabling them to mentor Care Leavers for minimum periods of 2 years with many evolving into a long-term friendship. All our volunteer mentors will be supported by their own mentor coordinator who will help guide them through any issues they face with the young person.
The hours we all work are varied and responsive to service needs so do include evenings and weekends, as we believe young people should have access to timely support. Care leavers tell us this is what they value most, and what makes us different to other services. We operate like a large family, so it is vital to us that people fit with the culture of our organisation. We help each other and do what is necessary to ensure everyone in the team, volunteer group and most importantly young people feel supported and valued.
Our projects provide opportunities for young people to stabilise, prevent crisis and progress to a life that isnt just about surviving. We help young people to thrive through a mixture of genuine love and care in addition to practical help and support.
