English Teacher supporting Refugee Clients

4th September to 31st October
We are looking for qualified TEFL teachers to help us expand our face-to-face English language programme in Manchester.
This activity is brought to you by The Union in partnership with Manchester Community Central
 
From applying to jobs or universities, writing emails or essays, or chatting with new colleagues or classmates, it is important to feel comfortable communicating in English.
We offer a range of group and one-to-one courses that provides our refugee clients with the skills needed to succeed in their career, or to access further study in the UK.
 
Dates & Times:  Weekdays, typically between 6pm-8:30pm.
*Daytime classes could be considered based on teacher/client availability.
Commitment: Variable depending on client need.
1 course = 4-6 sessions, 1 session per week, each lasting 2.5 hours.

About Breaking Barriers
Breaking Barriers is a small but ambitious charity. We believe that every refugee can fulfil their potential and integrate into the UK through finding meaningful employment that matches their skills and experience. We offer personalised one-to-one employment advice and guidance as well as English, IT, and Numeracy classes.
Since Breaking Barriers’ inception, we have grown to support more than 500 refugees per year. We are excited to have now expanded our services from London into Manchester and Birmingham!
Role overview:
We are looking for qualified TEFL teachers to help us expand our face-to-face English language programme in Manchester.
From applying to jobs or universities, writing emails or essays, or chatting with new colleagues or classmates, it is important to feel comfortable communicating in English.
We offer a range of group and one-to-one courses that provides our refugee clients with the skills needed to succeed in their career, or to access further study in the UK.
 
Key responsibilities:

Plan and prepare English lessons based on client level (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, IELTs)
Deliver lessons in person from the Manchester office.

 
Skills Required:

Fluent in English.
Teaching English qualification e.g., TEFL, CELTA, DELTA.
Compassion and ability to put people at ease.
Reliability and flexibility.
Positive can-do attitude, and an interest in the work of Breaking Barriers.
Other language skills are a bonus. Key languages include Arabic, Ukrainian Farsi/Dari, Tigrinya, Amharic, Pashto.

 
We ask that volunteers can:

Provide two references.
Travel to the Manchester office.
