Debdale Diggers Gardening Club
Debdale Park is offering the opportunity to join an already bustling community volunteer group and help maintain/develop the rose beds, general park areas and/or the heritage garden.
These opportunities will be assisted by park staff, current volunteers, and members of the park friends’ group.
What the role entails
Practical Garden duties. Anything from weeding to watering to winter protection.
Welcoming and communicating with visitors. Gardening knowledge, any botany expertise and answering any general questions from park goers.
Assist with events. You may help with preparation and clear up for events which carry a lot of attendance that comes with the risk of damage.
Fundraising. Some of our volunteers may wish to help us to raise funding for the friend’s group that goes back into the park. This could involve 'selling' the garden to corporate and private sponsors. People skills and good connections are a distinct plus.
Any other useful skills you can offer us.
What we are looking for
Ability to communicate clearly with others by being sociable and approachable, demonstrating patience, effective listening, and politeness (in person)
Ability to be respectful of differences and choices; being able to respect confidentiality whilst recognising your own boundaries and limitation within this role
Reliable, honest, and punctual ability to work independently but with guidance and support
Flexibility to commitment; a mutually agreeable arrangement between the volunteer, the person receiving support and Debdale Park friends’ group.
A passion for all things nature.
Pride in hard work and what the hard work results in.
A keen interest in working as part of a close-knit team.
