Conversation and Centre Volunteer

Do you want to help refugees improve their English? Conversation and Centre volunteers will be responsible for helping the Aspire Education team with centre management of Caritas Aspire English classes during evening sessions at the Cornerstone Centre, whilst helping the learners develop their English abilities through informal conversation.

Do you want to help refugees improve their English?
Our Conversation and Centre volunteers will be responsible for helping the Aspire Education team with centre management of Caritas Aspire English classes during our evening sessions at our Cornerstone Centre on Denmark Rd in Ardwick, whilst helping the learners develop their English abilities through informal conversation.
The role will include classroom set-up; door management – including welcoming learners, dealing with queries from non-learners and ensuring that the door is supervised at all times; helping new learners with enrolment forms and registrations forms.
It will also be an opportunity to help the learners develop their conversational English through informal conversations. If you are a native speaker (or native-level speaker) of English who is willing to talk and listen to refugees then this role is for you!
What you will be doing:
To support the sessions from 3.30pm until 7.45pm through the following:

Setting up classrooms Door Management
Welcoming new learners
Helping new learners enrol
Cleaning classrooms and tea/coffee area
Chatting informally with learners
Building rapport in a friendly and approachable manner
Respecting volunteering boundaries, safeguarding policy and health and safety

Native or native-level spoken English (if non-native please provide evidence of IELTs Speaking 7.5 or equivalent qualification – if you do not have this but would still like to volunteer please contact us directly as we have other opportunities)
