Admin Volunteer (Chinese speaking)

20th July to 1st October
The Chinese Health Information Centre (CHIC) are looking for a Bi/trilingual volunteer needed to assist with general data entry and organisation of activities for Chinese population in Manchester.
This activity is brought to you by The Union in partnership with Manchester Community Central

The Chinese Health Information Centre was established in 1987 to improve the access of health service among the Chinese communities in Manchester and the North West, and to tackle health inequalities. It is a well-established community based centre and the only health information centre which serve a large Chinese population in Manchester and its surrounding areas. Language barrier and the lack of understanding of the NHS health services have led to many Chinese People experiencing difficulty in accessing mainstream health services.

The Chinese Information Centre (CHIC) aims to provide culturally appropriate health information service and to provide links between statutory services and the Chinese Community in Greater Manchester. CHIC organise and provide a number of events and services including tai chi, karaoke, English classes and friendship circles. This role could include preparing food and socialising in these events.

Because of the cost-of-living crisis and post-pandemic isolation, older people are struggling with mental and physical wellbeing, this is only exacerbated by language and cultural barriers. The activities that CHIC provides benefit the Chinese residents massively however there is a lot of organisation and reporting which goes into keeping these events running. We would welcome an administrative volunteer to assist with data collection, digitising of data, collating and organising documents and filing. This would suit someone living near or in Manchester city centre.

We’re looking for a trustworthy volunteer to assist the operations manager in day-to-day data entry and organisation of paperwork. This is a very busy charity benefitting many people so a kind organised individual is essential.

This opportunity involves assisting the Operations Manager with administration tasks including organising events and data management. The volunteer must be genuine, caring, organised and have good computer skills including Microsoft Office. Because this role involves speaking to Chinese people with limited English the right candidate must be bi/trilingual. Ideally on a flexible weekly basis but all hours considered.
