Welcome Freshers! Meet Rise
Welcome Freshers, meet Rise — Manchester Met’s co-curricular programme designed to help you make the most of your time at university and learn beyond your course. It gives you the chance to enhance your degree by exploring opportunities beyond your main subject while gaining recognition for all that extra learning and growth. Whether you want to complement your studies or try something completely new, Rise has plenty to offer!
What Do We Offer?
With Rise, you’ve got tons of free opportunities right at your fingertips. Whether it’s earning a free Microsoft or Adobe certification, taking part in projects and placements, join workshops and guest talks, or picking up new skills with our self-study packs, there’s something for everyone!
These activities and opportunities are led by fellow students, staff, external partners, employers, experts in their fields, and members of the Rise Team.
As you get involved, you’ll earn Rise Points for each activity you complete. Stack up enough points, and you can earn digital badges—bronze, silver, or gold—in areas like Community, Sustainability, Self-effectiveness, Digital, Enterprise, and Internationalisation. These badges are perfect for showing off on LinkedIn or adding to your CV. More info on our badges here.
Plus, you’ve got your own Rise Transcript where all your achievements are tracked!
Did something awesome outside of Rise? You can even self-claim points for projects, volunteering, or work experience you’ve done on your own. Learn how to self-claim here.

How Does It Work?

What Can I Do with Rise?
150 Rise Points grants you transcript recognition — an extra line on your transcript that demonstrates the additional effort you’ve made. And! 300 points may make you eligible for additional academic credit. Get in touch with your Personal or Programme Tutor to find out if you’re eligible to submit the Rise Assessment.
Connect and Belong
Most of all, Rise is about connecting—making new friends, meeting like-minded people, and finding your place in the university community.
Rise helps you feel more confident, prepared for the future, and ready to take on new challenges.
